TROUBLESHOOTING
1. DEAD SYSTEM
Problem: - Computer
is not getting ON, No LED status and S.M.P.S. fan not moving.
Solution: - 1) Check Mains input. If not O.K. then first rectified it.
2)
Check Power Cord. If faulty then replace it.
3)
Check S.M.P.S. If faulty get it repair or replace.
4)
Check loose connection. If loose connection then tight it.
2. NO DISPLAY
Problem: - Nothing coming on screen, Monitor, CMOS
Battery, Display Card (VGA),
RAM,
RAM SLOTS, ROM.
Solution: - 1) Check L.E.D. of Keyboard. If getting
On/Off while pressing Num Lock, Scroll Lock or Caps Lock then problem with
monitor or display card is loose in slot. If does not giving any status then
check the CMOS Battery, if battery is weak then replace with good one. If still
there is no status then check loose connections of power connector and loose
display cable from monitor to computer. If there is no beep then problem with
MB, RAM, ROM, CPU. Replace one item at a time. If there is beep then diagnose
according to the beep code. (It will give the beep statues for RAM, Display
Card and also in some case for shorting or cache memory on motherboard.)
2)
Clean the CPU sockets and slots in which the cards are installed and also RAM
slots.
3)
Check the display in min. requirement. If there is no display, then take out
the MB, CPU, RAM and Display card from cabinet and assemble it outside and then
check display if still there is no display then check the heating components.
If any component is excessively heating then possibility of shorting of
component then get it rectified.
3) SYSTEM NOT BOOTING
Problem: - 1. Check whether any message coming on
screen or it is not booting at all.
a) Message Coming “Insert System Disk in Drive
A”.
b) Message Coming “Boot Disk Failure”.
c) Message Coming “Bad Command Interpreter”.
d) Message Coming “Missing Operating System”.
2. Nothing coming on screen only CURSOR is
bliking.
Solution: - a) If “Insert System Disk in Drive A”
message is coming on screen it means System is not detecting any bootable
device other than Drive A. First Check from CMOS setup that your HDD or CD-ROM
is detecting or not, if detecting then check that booting files present on HDD
or CD is Bootable. If booting files present on HDD then check for virus on HDD.
Then check media of HDD by running SCANDISK then replace CD with another known
good bootable CD. If still problem exist then boot from floppy, if system boots
then problem with HDD logic Card if system doesn’t boot from Floppy that means
problem in your motherboard.
b)
If message displaying “Boot Disk Failure” then it means booting files on media
is corrupt, Damage by virus or missing from booting media. Copy System Files
with the help of SYS command or remove virus or format the media and transfer
system files to media. Or may HDD Cable (Data Cable) & Power Cable may be
loose.
c)
If message is coming “Bad Command Interpreter” then it means Command.com files
is missing or corrupt. Replace Command.Com with another good file of same
version or check virus. If virus in system then remove it with the help of
latest Anti Virus Software.
d) If message is displaying “Missing
Operating System” then check the type of HDD according to CMOS setup.
2. If nothing coming on screen then check
that system files missing or not. If system files are missing or corrupt then
copy again.
4) SYSTEM BOOTING BUT NO DISPLAY
Problem: - Problem related to Monitor.
Solution: - If system accepts anything from keyboard
and some sound is coming from HDD or FDD and if Printer is connected to
computer and it initialize then it means that system is working fine check for
“Brightness Control or Contrast Control of Monitor, if O.K. then check signal
cable of Monitor for disconnect or bend, if O.K. then change the display cable
of M.B. If problem exist then problem with monitor, first check by replacing
with another good monitor or check monitor Circuitry.
5) PRINTER IS NOT INSTALLING
Problem: - Printer Problem, Driver CD Problem,
Drivers not supported by the H/W and O/S, Driver mismatch or Connection
Problem.
Solution: - 1. Check whether printer is connecting to
computer. Start computer in DOS and take printout in DOS by giving command
DIR>ORN. If printout comes then everything is O.K. if message is displays
“Write fault error writing device prn” then it means LPT1 port of Computer
is faulty. If message “Printer ready error” then cit means either printer is
switched off or it is off line. If message comes “Paper out error” then check
that paper is inserted in printer.
2.
If printer is working in DOS but not installing in windows then check for
proper drivers, which are comfortable to our Operating System.
3.
Check in CMOS Setup that printer port is not disabled, if disable then enable
it.
4.
Check in device manager there should not be any Yellow or Red mark in front of
parallel port. If any mark is coming then it means IRQ7 is used by another
device or printer port is disabled, Change IRQ of another device by going to
properties of another device.
